Solar panels from Newpower
A solar PV system turns daylight into electricity you use first, before you buy any from the grid. Across the north and the Midlands a well-placed roof produces roughly 950 to 1,000 kWh a year for every kWp fitted, so our most common system, ten LONGi Hi-MO X10 panels making 4.8 kWp, generates around 4,500 kWh a year. That is more than the 2,700 kWh Ofgem counts as a typical home's annual use. Anything you do not use is either stored in a home battery or exported and paid for under the Smart Export Guarantee.
Fitted and certified by Newpower.
Newpower Advanced Ltd is MCS certified (NAP-75287), which is what makes you eligible for export payments and for 0% VAT on the whole install until March 2027. We handle the design, the install, the paperwork and the aftercare, and there is one number to ring before and after. If you drive electric, a home EV charger can go in on the same visit and run on your surplus, and what solar panels cost sets out where a typical job lands.

What a system costs
Solar and battery starting at £6,995
That is a smaller system with a compact battery, and it can be added to later. What moves the price is the roof, not the badge on the panel: how many pitches, what the tiles are, whether it needs scaffold on three sides, and whether you want a battery with it. We give you a ballpark on the phone and a real figure when we have seen the roof.
0% VAT on the whole install until March 2027. MCS certified, so you can claim export payments.

Built-in solar panels
In-roof panels replace a section of tiles instead of sitting on rails above them, so the array lies flush with the roof and reads as part of the house rather than something bolted on. A weatherproof tray and flashing run round the edge, just like a roof window.
They suit a new build, an extension or a roof that is being re-tiled anyway, and anyone who wants the neatest finish. On an existing roof they cost a little more than panels on rails, because tiles come off and the tray goes in, and we will tell you honestly which one your roof suits.
Ask about built-in solar panels
A roof is the cheapest power station you will ever own.
Ten panels on a south-facing pitch make more electricity in a year than Ofgem says a typical home uses. The argument is not whether it works. It is whether the roof, the shading and the way you use power add up at your house, which is what the survey is for.

What we fit
We choose equipment we can get parts and support for locally. If you have a brand in mind, ask; if it is good we will fit it.
How it works.
From enquiry to handover, and who does what.
Step 1 · At a time that suits you
Home visit
Our surveyor visits, checks the roof, loft, consumer unit and meter, and talks through what you actually use.
Step 2 · At the visit, or straight after it
Design and quote
You get a written design with the expected generation, the saving estimate and a quote in writing you can hold up against anyone else's. No pressure.
Step 3 · 1 to 2 weeks
DNO and scaffold
Systems under 3.68 kW per phase are notified to your network operator after the install (G98). Larger systems need approval first (G99), which we apply for while the scaffold is booked.
Step 4 · 1 day on site
Install day
Roofers fit the mounting and panels in the morning; our electrician fits the inverter, battery and isolators and connects to your consumer unit. Most homes are done in a day.
Step 5 · Same day, then ongoing
Handover and aftercare
We commission the system, set up the monitoring app with you and hand over the MCS certificate, warranties and electrical certificates, with our workmanship warranty behind it.

Questions we get asked.
How much do solar panels cost?
Solar with a battery starts at £6,995 installed: a smaller system with a compact battery, which can be added to later. A bigger family system with a 5.12 kWh battery is usually between £9,000 and £10,000, and a Tesla Powerwall 3 system starts from around £12,500. All with 0% VAT until March 2027. The price moves with the number of panels, roof access, whether you need a G99 application and which battery you choose. You get a quote in writing after the visit.
Do I pay VAT on solar panels?
No. Solar panels, batteries fitted with them and the installation are zero-rated for VAT on homes in Great Britain until 31 March 2027, after which the rate is due to return to 5%. Our prices are quoted with 0% VAT applied.
Do I need planning permission?
Usually not. Roof-mounted solar is permitted development on most houses as long as the panels do not stick out more than 200 mm from the roof slope and the home is not listed. Conservation areas such as Wentworth, Whiston and parts of Dore can add conditions on roofs facing a road, and we check this at the survey.
What is MCS and why does it matter?
The Microgeneration Certification Scheme is the quality standard for small-scale renewables. Newpower is MCS certified (NAP-75287). You need an MCS certificate to claim Smart Export Guarantee payments, to qualify for 0% VAT and for most finance products, and it means the design and install are inspected against a published standard.
How much will I actually save?
It depends on how much of the electricity you use at home rather than export. A 4.8 kWp system making 4,500 kWh a year, with 40% used in the home at 24.5p a unit and the rest exported at 15p, saves about £850 a year. Add a battery and self-use rises to around 70%, taking that to roughly £980 before you count cheaper off-peak charging. Those unit rates are the Ofgem price cap figures for autumn 2026; your design shows the estimate for your roof and your usage.
How long does it take?
From enquiry to install is typically 3 to 5 weeks; the install itself is usually one day for a straightforward roof. We handle the survey, the install and the paperwork, so there is one number to ring throughout.
