Solar panel installers for Grantham.
Grantham is a market town on the A1 and the main line north, with a medieval centre around St Wulfram's, Victorian streets beyond it and newer estates on the edges. The villages around it are a different job: across South Kesteven one home in ten runs on oil, three times the share across England, and two in five houses are detached. So a Grantham semi usually wants panels and a battery, and a farmhouse off the gas main usually wants a heat pump.
Every install is MCS certified (NAP-75287), with 0% VAT on solar, batteries and heat pumps until March 2027 and the £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant claimed for you.

What Grantham's housing means for solar and heat pumps
Central Grantham, around St Wulfram's and the old market place, is the town's main conservation area, and the streets around St Anne's have a smaller one of their own. The terraces close to the centre have narrow roofs, so one slope of panels and a battery indoors is the usual design. Further out, the estates at Harrowby, Earlesfield and Barrowby Gate have simpler roofs that take a full array.
Outside the town the houses get bigger: two in five homes in South Kesteven are detached, one in ten burns oil, and 44% of households run two or more cars. That is where solar, a battery, a heat pump and an EV charger can work as one system, with the heat pump sized from a room-by-room heat loss survey rather than from the old boiler.
Planning and conservation areas
South Kesteven District Council has conservation areas in Grantham (the town centre and St Anne's) and in many of the villages around it, including Barrowby, Great Gonerby, Manthorpe, Harlaxton, Belton, Londonthorpe and Woolsthorpe-by-Colsterworth. In them, roof panels are normally still permitted development, but panels on a front wall or a heat pump on the front of the house need consent; we check the council's map at the survey and make the application if one is needed. Elsewhere, and away from listed buildings, roof solar, batteries and air source heat pumps are permitted development on most houses.

South Kesteven homes heated by oil alone
10.2% of households, plus 1.7% on tank or bottled gas, against 3.2% across England. Those homes qualify for the higher £9,000 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, and they are where a heat pump saves the most.

42%
of South Kesteven homes are detached
Against 23% across England, with another 31% semi-detached. A detached roof often has room for a bigger array, and a garden with space to site a heat pump well away from the neighbours.

44%
of households run two or more cars
Against 35% across England. With two cars on the drive, an EV charger set to use solar surplus by day and cheap overnight electricity otherwise is often the quickest win after the panels.

Near Grantham.
We cover Grantham and everywhere around it. A few of the places nearby, and what tends to matter there.
Barrowby
NG32 · South Kesteven District Council
On the hill west of Grantham, across the A1, with a conservation area around the old village and 21 listed buildings in it. Road-facing roofs inside the boundary are checked first; the newer houses on the edges of the village are straightforward.
Long Bennington
NG23 · South Kesteven District Council
A long village on the old Great North Road between Grantham and Newark, now bypassed by the A1. It has a Newark postcode but sits in South Kesteven, so planning questions go to Grantham, and a detached house on a bigger plot here can take a larger array and a heat pump sited well away from the neighbours.
Colsterworth
NG33 · South Kesteven District Council
On the A1 south of Grantham, next to Woolsthorpe Manor, where Isaac Newton was born; Woolsthorpe-by-Colsterworth has its own conservation area. In the villages along this stretch, an oil boiler is common enough that the higher grant is often where a heat pump conversation starts.
Your questions, answered for Grantham.
Who do you need permission from to connect solar in Grantham?
National Grid Electricity Distribution runs the network across Grantham and South Kesteven, in its East Midlands area. A typical home system is notified to them after the install under G98; a bigger inverter or a large battery needs a G99 application first, which can take several weeks. We make the application and deal with them for you.
I live in Barrowby's conservation area. Can I have solar panels?
Usually, yes. Roof panels are normally still permitted development inside a conservation area, sited to keep their effect on the street small; panels on a front wall need planning consent, and a listed building needs listed building consent. We check your house against the council's boundary at the survey and, if consent is needed, prepare and submit the application.
Is a heat pump worth it in an oil-heated village near Grantham?
That is where it makes most sense. Oil and LPG cost more per unit of heat than a heat pump does to run, and a home coming off oil or LPG gets the higher £9,000 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant, taken off the price up front. Older houses are often fine with a few larger radiators; the heat loss survey tells us which.
We have two cars. Is it worth adding an EV charger with solar?
Usually, yes. A smart charger can top the car up from spare solar during the day and switch to a cheap overnight tariff the rest of the time, so most of the car's miles come from the cheapest electricity you can get. Fitting it alongside the panels saves a second visit.
Do you cover the villages between Grantham, Newark and Melton?
Yes: Grantham and the whole of South Kesteven, including the villages towards Newark, Melton Mowbray, Sleaford and Stamford. We fit anywhere in the country, so if your postcode is not listed, put it in anyway.
