The story so far

Joe started in solar and heat pumps in 2016, when a home battery was a novelty and most people had never heard of a heat pump. Ten years on, he has seen the trade from the inside: the installers who do the job properly, and the ones who sell a system and are never heard from again.

In November 2022 he set up Newpower in Rotherham to do it the first way. Go and look at the house properly. Tell people straight whether it is worth doing. Put the price in writing. Fit it properly, and still be there to pick up the phone afterwards.

Today Newpower fits solar, batteries, heat pumps, EV chargers and air conditioning for homes and businesses across the country, with around 50 years in the trade between the people behind it. Joe still runs it day to day, and still reads and signs off every guide on this site before it goes up.

Joe talks on podcasts, radio, in the press and at events about home energy: what is worth doing, what is not, what it really costs, and how to avoid being sold the wrong thing. Ten years of real installs, not a press release.
