About the estimate
How accurate is it?
It is a rough guide from typical homes like yours. It estimates your floor area from the house type and bedrooms and how much heat the house loses on a cold day from its age and insulation, then picks the size of heat pump that covers it. Your real figure comes from a room-by-room heat loss survey, which is what the fixed price is based on.
Why is your price higher than some I've seen?
Because ours is the whole job. A heat pump runs the radiators cooler than a boiler, so most homes need some bigger radiators, and nearly every home needs a new hot water cylinder. Our figure includes those, the pipework and controls, and taking the old boiler and tanks away. Some headline prices leave them out and add them after the survey.
When will it cost less?
When there is less to change. If your radiators are already big enough for a heat pump, or you have underfloor heating, the price comes down towards the lower figure. The make of heat pump and the size of cylinder move it too. The survey settles all of it before you commit.
What about the grant?
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme takes £7,500 off, or £9,000 for homes off the gas grid switching from oil or LPG, in England and Wales. We apply for it and take it off the price. Check you qualify.
