What we check, and what you should too
Whether or not you send it to us, these are the lines that decide whether two quotes are for the same thing.
On a solar or battery quote
- System sizeHow many kWp, and whether that fits your roof and what you use.
- Panel modelThe exact make and model, not just “tier one panels”.
- InverterMake, model and size, and whether it can take a battery later.
- BatteryUsable capacity in kWh, not the headline figure, and whether backup is included.
- Predicted generationHow the yearly figure was worked out, and whether shading was allowed for.
- ScaffoldIncluded, and on how many sides.
- Network applicationWho applies to the DNO, and whether the system needs a G99.
- MCS certificateIssued in your name, which is what gets you export payments and 0% VAT.
- WarrantiesProduct, performance and workmanship listed separately, and whether workmanship is insurance-backed.
- The final priceWhat is excluded, and that VAT is shown at 0% on a home install.
On a heat pump quote
- Heat loss surveyA room-by-room calculation, not a size guessed from the floor area.
- Unit sizeMatched to the heat loss, not the biggest one available.
- RadiatorsWhich ones change, and why.
- Hot waterThe cylinder, its size and where it goes.
- The grant£7,500 or £9,000 taken off the price, with the installer applying for it.
- Noise and sitingWhere the outdoor unit goes, and that it meets the planning noise limit.

Questions
Is there a charge for checking a quote?
No. Send it over and we will go through it and ring you.
Are you just going to try to sell me yours?
We will tell you what we would do differently and give you a figure if you want one, but the point is that you can judge the quote you have. If it is a good quote, we will say so.
What if the other quote is cheaper?
Then we check it is for the same thing. Most of the difference between two quotes is in what is left out: scaffold, the network application, a smaller battery than it sounds, or a warranty that only covers the parts.
Do I need to send the whole quote?
The pages with the equipment list, the price and the warranty are the ones that matter. Photos are fine.
