Tesla Powerwall 3 and Duracell certified installer. Backup in a power cut, cheaper electricity every day.

Battery storage from Newpower

A home battery stores electricity when it is cheap or free and gives it back when it is expensive. With solar panels, it keeps the afternoon surplus for the evening instead of exporting it for a few pence, and it can be added to panels you already have. Without solar, it charges overnight on an off-peak tariff such as Intelligent Octopus Go and runs the house through the day, which is why battery-only installs are one of the fastest-growing jobs we do.

Fitted and certified by Newpower.

Newpower is a Tesla certified installer for the Tesla Powerwall 3 and a certified Duracell Energy installer, and we also fit Hanchu ESS, Fox ESS, Sunsynk and EcoFlow. Battery installs are zero-rated for VAT until March 2027 whether or not they are fitted with solar.

What a battery costs

It depends on the size, and the size depends on your evenings

A battery is priced by usable kWh and by whether it is going in alongside new solar or retrofitting to a system you already have. Anyone who quotes you before asking when you actually use power is guessing. Tell us the postcode and roughly what you pay a month and we will give you a ballpark.

The battery is what turns a good solar system into a cheap electricity bill.

Panels make their power at midday and most people use theirs at six. A battery bridges those six hours, and on an off-peak tariff it fills up overnight whether you have solar or not. Sized right it pays; sized by a salesman it sits half empty.

  • Backup gateway or changeover where you want power in a cut
  • DNO notification or G99 application, handled by us
  • Off-peak tariff schedule set up so it charges when power is cheapest
  • Part P electrical certificate and, with solar, the MCS certificate
  • Monitoring app on your phone before we leave
  • Our workmanship warranty on top of the manufacturer warranty

What we fit

We choose equipment we can get parts and support for locally. If you have a brand in mind, ask; if it is good we will fit it.

How it works.

From enquiry to handover, and who does what.

  1. Step 1 · At a time that suits you

    Home visit

Our surveyor checks your consumer unit, where the battery can go (garage, utility, outside wall), and your tariff and usage pattern.

  2. Step 2 · At the visit, or straight after it

    Design and quote

You get a written design with the expected generation, the saving estimate and a quote in writing you can hold up against anyone else's. No pressure.

  3. Step 3 · Allow a few weeks for a G99

    DNO approval

Most batteries need a G99 application to the network operator before install because they can export. We submit it and chase it; you do nothing.

  4. Step 4 · Usually a day on site

    Install day

The battery is mounted, wired to a dedicated circuit and commissioned. A Powerwall with backup takes a little longer because the gateway sits between the meter and the house.

  5. Step 5 · Same day, then ongoing

    Handover and aftercare

We commission the system, set up the monitoring app with you and hand over the MCS certificate, warranties and electrical certificates, with our workmanship warranty behind it.

Questions we get asked.

Is a battery worth it without solar panels?

Often, yes. On an off-peak tariff the battery charges at the night rate and runs the house through the day at that price instead of the standard rate. What you save is the gap between the night rate and the day rate multiplied by how much you actually shift, so it turns on your usage rather than your roof. Add a gateway and you also get backup in a power cut.

Powerwall 3, Duracell or Fox ESS: which should I choose?

Powerwall 3 is 13.5 kWh with a built-in solar inverter and whole-home backup, so it suits bigger homes, new solar installs and anyone who wants to ride through a power cut. Duracell Energy and Fox ESS are modular, so you can start small and add more, and they usually come in cheaper per kWh; Fox ESS is the value pairing with new solar and Duracell the bigger brand behind the same idea. We fit all three and will show you the numbers for your usage rather than push one.

Will it keep the lights on in a power cut?

Only if it is installed with a backup gateway or changeover, which we include on Powerwall 3 installs and can add to most others. Without one, every grid-tied battery has to shut down in a cut for the safety of the people working on the line.

Can I add a battery to solar panels someone else fitted?

Yes. An AC-coupled battery has its own inverter and sits alongside whatever inverter you already have, so it works with any brand and age of solar system. We check the existing install for safety at the survey.

Is there VAT on home batteries?

Not until March 2027. Battery storage has been zero-rated for VAT on homes in Great Britain since February 2024, whether it is fitted with solar or on its own.

How long does a home battery last?

Manufacturers warrant the Powerwall 3 for ten years, and Duracell and Fox ESS for ten years as well, each with a guaranteed minimum capacity left at the end of it. In normal use they cycle about once a day.
