Commercial solar from Newpower

A business that runs during daylight is the best possible fit for solar: the electricity is used the moment it is made, at the price you would otherwise pay your supplier, with no export to worry about. In the north of England a roof gets roughly 900 kWh a year for every kWp installed, so a portal-frame roof full of panels takes a serious bite out of a daytime bill.

Fitted and certified by Newpower.

Newpower designs and installs commercial systems from small rooftop arrays up to megawatt-scale, on pitched, flat and standing-seam roofs and on ground mounts, with battery storage where the load or the tariff justifies it. We are MCS certified (NAP-75287) and handle the G99 application, structural checks and the finance options, including lease and power purchase agreements. One company manages the job from survey to handover. If the building needs cooling as well, commercial air conditioning can be surveyed on the same visit.

What a commercial array costs

Priced off your daytime load and your roof

The number that matters is not the cost per kWp, it is how much of what you generate you use on site. We look at a year of half-hourly data, the roof structure and the incoming supply, then tell you what is worth fitting. Full expensing takes the tax off the capital cost in the first year.

Commercial installs carry VAT at 20%, which a VAT-registered business reclaims.

If the load is in the daytime, the numbers are hard to argue with.

Warehouses, workshops, farms and schools use their power exactly when a roof makes it, which is the best case solar has. Full expensing takes the tax off the capital cost in year one.

  • Site survey with half-hourly consumption data analysis where available
  • System design with generation model, self-consumption estimate and payback
  • Structural check of the roof and fixings specified to the roof type
  • G99 application and any DNO works co-ordinated by us
  • Panels, mounting, inverters, DC and AC works and monitoring
  • Battery storage and export limiting where required

What we fit

We choose equipment we can get parts and support for locally. If you have a brand in mind, ask; if it is good we will fit it.

How it works.

From enquiry to handover, and who does what.

  1. Step 1 · At a time that suits you

    Site survey and data

Roof, switchgear, supply capacity and, ideally, a year of half-hourly data from your supplier.

  2. Step 2 · After the survey

    Design and proposal

Generation model, savings, payback, finance options and a written quote.

  3. Step 3 · Allow a few weeks

    DNO and structural

G99 application to the network operator and a structural sign-off for the roof.

  4. Step 4 · Two to three days on site

    Install

Managed around your operations, with one point of contact throughout.

  5. Step 5 · Final day

    Commissioning and handover

Monitoring live, certificates and O&M pack issued, maintenance plan agreed.

Questions we get asked.

How much does commercial solar cost?

Commercial systems are priced per kWp, and the rate falls as the array gets bigger, because the scaffold, the design and the DNO work are much the same whether you are putting up fifty panels or five hundred. VAT is charged at 20% and a VAT-registered business reclaims it. The written quote follows the survey and the structural check.

What is the payback?

For a business using most of what it generates on site, payback is usually well inside the warranty period, and the panels are warranted for 25 years. The honest answer depends entirely on your tariff and on how much of your load sits in daylight, so the proposal models it on your own half-hourly data rather than on an average.

Do we need planning permission?

Roof-mounted solar on a commercial building is usually permitted development up to 1 MW, with conditions on listed buildings, conservation areas and panels near the roof edge. Ground mounts have their own limits. We check and, where needed, handle the application.

Will our supply need upgrading?

Sometimes. Anything above 3.68 kW per phase needs G99 approval from the network operator, and larger systems may need export limiting or a supply upgrade. We deal with the DNO and build any conditions into the design.

Is finance available?

Yes: outright purchase, asset finance, lease and power purchase agreements. Newpower Advanced Ltd is a credit broker, not a lender (FCA FRN 1037988). Solar also usually qualifies for capital allowances, which is worth putting to your accountant before you commit.

Can you add a battery?

Yes. A battery makes sense where you have evening or weekend load, where your tariff has a big peak/off-peak difference, or where the DNO limits export. We size it to the site's load, often with several battery units working together.
