Duracell Energy batteries
A name everybody already trusts, on a modular battery that is unusually easy to add to solar you already own.

Why people ask for Duracell Energy by name
People know the name before we say anything, and for a purchase like this that counts for more than installers like to admit. You are being asked to put several thousand pounds of lithium on the side of your house and trust it for a decade. Recognising the brand is not a silly reason to feel better about that.
What it is genuinely good at is the retrofit. It goes in AC coupled, which means your existing inverter stays exactly where it is whoever made it, and the battery works alongside it. If you had solar fitted five or eight years ago by somebody else and want storage now, this is usually the shortest route to it.
It is modular, so you start at the capacity your usage justifies and add to it when an EV or a heat pump turns up. Newpower is a certified Duracell installer, which is what lets us register the warranty properly rather than leaving you with a form.
- AC coupled, so it adds to any existing solar whoever installed it
- Modular, so capacity matches the house rather than a fixed figure
- Fitted by a certified Duracell installer, with the warranty registered for you
- Zero-rated for VAT until 31 March 2027, with or without panels
The full Duracell Energy range
We fit the whole Duracell Energy range and any number of modules. The three below are the three ways people buy it, not a limit on capacity.
Roughly how the range maps onto real houses:
Adding to existing solar
Panels already on the roof, fitted by anyone.
- Arrangement
- AC coupled beside your current inverter
- Works with
- Any inverter brand
- Disruption
- The existing system is left alone
- Export
- Limiting fitted where the network operator asks for it
New solar and battery
Both going in at once.
- Arrangement
- Designed together from the start
- Sizing
- From your usage pattern, not the roof area
- Expandable
- Add modules later
- Grid
- G98 or G99 made for you
Battery on its own
A cheap overnight tariff and no roof worth using.
- How it pays
- Buy at the night rate, use it through the day
- VAT
- Still zero-rated without panels
- Sizing
- From how much you can actually shift
- Honest check
- Only worth it if your tariff has a real gap in it
How Duracell Energy compares
| Duracell Energy | Tesla Powerwall | Fox ESS | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Capacity | Modular, add later | 13.5 kWh, stack more | Stackable |
| Adding to existing solar | Straightforward, AC coupled | Possible | Straightforward |
| Whole-home backup | Not its strength | Yes, with a gateway | Essential circuits |
| Name recognition | High | High | Low outside the trade |
| Cost per usable kWh | Middle | Higher | Lowest |
| Best for | Retrofitting storage to an older array | Backup and a new install | Stretching a budget |
The honest verdict
Why we fit a lot of them
- The easiest retrofit in our range: your existing inverter stays, whoever fitted it
- Modular, so nobody buys capacity the house will never cycle
- A brand people already trust, which matters more on a ten-year purchase than installers admit
- Certified installation, so the warranty is registered properly on the day
What to weigh up
- Backup is not what it is built for; if you want the house to stay on in a cut, say so and we will design for it differently
- The name is a licensing arrangement rather than the battery factory you are picturing, which is normal in this industry but worth knowing
- Modular means the first module carries the fixed costs, so the cost per kWh improves as you add
- A battery makes no electricity; on a flat tariff with no solar there is very little for it to do
Questions we get asked about Duracell Energy
Can I add one to solar I already have?
Yes, and it is the thing it does best. It goes in AC coupled, so your existing inverter is left exactly where it is whoever made it, and the battery works alongside.
Is it actually made by Duracell?
It is a licensed brand, which is normal in this industry and worth being straight about. What you get is a well-built modular battery with a recognisable name and a proper warranty behind it.
How big should it be?
From what you use and when, not from your roof. We look at when your demand actually lands, because a battery only earns money on the units it shifts.
Will it work in a power cut?
Backup is not its main purpose. If keeping the house running through a cut matters to you, tell us at the survey and we will show you what that changes.
Are you certified for it?
Yes, Newpower is a certified Duracell Energy installer. That is what lets us register the warranty properly rather than handing you a form to post.
