What it costs to have one fitted

including VAT at 20%

Installed price covers the charger, our standard install (wall mount within a normal cable run of the consumer unit, cable clipped or in trunking, dedicated circuit), DNO notification and the app and tariff set up.

What moves it: the cable run from the consumer unit, whether it clips to a wall or has to go under a drive, and whether the board needs anything doing to it first.

Why the Indra Smart PRO

  • Budget without the compromises

Intelligent Octopus Go as the charger controller, OVO Charge Anytime, solar diversion via the included CT clamp and dynamic load balancing, at the lowest installed price we offer.

  • Surge protection in the box

The Smart PRO ships with a surge protection device and built-in open-PEN detection, which means less work at the consumer unit and a quicker, cheaper install.

  • Made in Malvern

Indra is a British company backed by OVO, and the Smart PRO is the charger most of the big housebuilders fit as standard.

Tethered or untethered?

Tethered, 6 m

A fixed 6 m cable with a holster on the unit. Longer than the Ohme's standard 5 m, and the usual choice for daily use.

Socket

A Type 2 socket for your own cable. Slightly more expensive as a unit, tidier on the wall.

The Indra is the sensible budget choice: it does the tariff job as well as the Ohme and adds solar diversion, for less. Pay more for the Ohme if you need 4G rather than Wi-Fi, or for the Hypervolt if looks, weather rating and cable length matter.

Tariff pairing: Intelligent Octopus Go or OVO Charge Anytime

Both tariffs use the Smart PRO as the controller, so the cheap-rate scheduling works with any car. Set the ready-by time in the Indra app and the tariff does the rest. We link the charger to your account at the install.

Questions about the Indra Smart PRO.

How much does an Indra Smart PRO cost installed?

A quote in writing, covering the charger, our standard install and VAT at 20%. It is the cheapest way into a proper wall charger that we will put our name to.

Is Indra a reliable brand?

Indra is a small British company (around 50 staff) backed by OVO since 2017 and chosen by Persimmon for new homes. The hardware is solid and British-made; it is a smaller company than Ohme or myenergi, which we say plainly.

Does it need Wi-Fi?

Yes. There is no 4G option, so the charger position needs Wi-Fi signal. We check at the photo survey and can fit an extender if needed.

Can it charge from solar?

Yes, the CT clamp is included and the app has a solar mode that diverts surplus. It is not as refined as the Zappi's Eco+ but it works.

What does the surge protection do?

A surge protection device protects the charger and the car's electronics from voltage spikes. It is required by the wiring regulations on most EV charger installs; Indra puts it in the box so we do not have to fit one at the consumer unit.

Is there a grant?

Only for renters and flat owners: 75% of the cost up to £500. The Smart PRO is OZEV-approved.
