What it costs to have one fitted

including VAT at 20%

Installed price covers the charger, our standard install (wall mount within a normal cable run of the consumer unit, cable clipped or in trunking, dedicated circuit), DNO notification and the app and tariff set up.

What moves it: the cable run from the consumer unit, whether it clips to a wall or has to go under a drive, and whether the board needs anything doing to it first.

We give you a figure at the visit and put it in writing. Finance is available; Newpower Advanced Ltd is a credit broker, not a lender (FCA FRN 1037988).

Why the Ohme Home Pro

  • Built for Intelligent Octopus Go

Ohme is an official Octopus partner and the charger itself is the controller, so the tariff works with any car, not just the ones with their own Octopus integration. British Gas and E.ON EV tariffs are supported too.

  • A screen on the unit

The Home Pro has a colour display, so you can see the charge status and override a schedule without opening the app. The ePod is the same charger without the screen.

  • 4G built in, no earth rod

A multi-network SIM means no Wi-Fi needed in the garage. Built-in open-PEN protection means no earth rod to dig in, which keeps the install quick and tidy.

Tethered or untethered?

Tethered: Ohme Home Pro

The cable is fixed to the charger, so you plug in and go. Simplest for daily use; 5 m is standard and 8 m is available for a car parked further along the drive.

Untethered: Ohme ePod

A Type 2 socket instead of a fixed cable. You use your own cable, the wall stays tidier, and it suits homes where the car might change. Same Ohme app and tariff integration.

Pick the Home Pro if you are on or moving to an Octopus, British Gas or E.ON EV tariff, have no solar and want a screen. The ePod is the same charger for less if you prefer a socket. If you have solar or want a longer cable and a choice of colours, the Hypervolt is the better fit.

Tariff pairing: Intelligent Octopus Go

Tell the Ohme app when you need the car ready and how much charge you want, and Octopus schedules the charging into the cheap overnight windows. The saving is the gap between the off-peak rate and the standard one, across everything you put in the car. We pair the charger with your Octopus account before we leave.

Questions about the Ohme Home Pro.

How much does an Ohme Home Pro cost installed?

A quote in writing, covering the charger, our standard install and VAT at 20%. A longer cable, a run under a drive or a consumer unit upgrade are priced separately and in writing before the day, never added on it.

Does it need Wi-Fi?

No. The Home Pro connects over a built-in 4G SIM with three years of data included. If your garage has very poor mobile signal, tell us at the photo survey and we will check before the install.

Can it charge from my solar panels?

It has a Solar Boost mode that adds charge when you are exporting, but it is not full solar diversion. If solar charging is the main reason for the charger, the Zappi or Hypervolt do it better.

Will it work with my car?

Yes. Any car with a Type 2 socket, which is every EV and plug-in hybrid sold in the UK. Because the charger controls the schedule, tariff integration works whatever the car.

Do I need an earth rod?

No. Open-PEN protection is built in, which is the modern alternative to an earth rod on a PME supply and the method the wiring regulations expect.

Is there a grant?

The OZEV grant for owner-occupied houses ended in 2022. If you rent or own a flat, the EV chargepoint grant pays 75% of the cost up to £500. The Home Pro is an approved unit and we will tell you if you qualify.
