MCS certified heat pump installers, fitting anywhere in the country. Sized off a room-by-room heat loss survey, never a rule of thumb.

Air source heat pumps from Newpower

An air source heat pump takes heat from the outside air, even on a cold winter morning, and moves it into your radiators and hot water. For every unit of electricity it uses it delivers around three to four units of heat, which is why a well-designed system costs about the same to run as a gas boiler today and less on a heat pump tariff. It replaces the boiler completely, including hot water.

Our own team, on your job.

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme pays £7,500 towards the install, or £9,000 where it replaces an oil or LPG boiler off the gas grid. Because Newpower is MCS certified (NAP-75287) we apply for the grant on your behalf and take it off the price, so you only ever pay the balance. The install is also zero-rated for VAT until March 2027. Our own team does the work, we fit Vaillant, Ideal and Mitsubishi Electric heat pumps, and we size every system from a room-by-room heat loss survey, not a rule of thumb. If you are not sure your house suits one, start with is my home suitable for a heat pump.

The grant, and how a heat pump job runs

£7,500 or £9,000 off, claimed for you

£7,500 comes off an air source heat pump under the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, or £9,000 if the house is off the gas grid and runs on oil or LPG. We apply for the voucher, and it comes off before you pay anything. What is left depends entirely on the house, which is why the next step is a visit rather than a price.

We come out, look at the house and give you a ballpark. If you are happy with us and with that figure, we book the full survey, which costs between £250 and £450 and buys the room-by-room heat loss calculation and the design. No heat pump should be quoted without one.

Not sure you qualify for the grant? Check in three questions, or work out a rough price for your home.

Already got a quote from someone else? Send it to us and we’ll check it.

What we fit

We choose equipment we can get parts and support for locally. If you have a brand in mind, ask; if it is good we will fit it.

How it works.

From enquiry to handover, and who does what.

  1. Step 1 · Usually within the week

    We come and look

One of us visits, looks at the house, the rads, the cylinder space and where a unit could go, and talks through what you actually want out of it. You get a ballpark figure at that visit, not a brochure.

  2. Step 2 · between £250 and £450

    The full survey

If you are happy with us and with the ballpark, we book the survey. It is chargeable because it is real work: every room measured, the heat loss calculated, the radiators checked against the flow temperature and the system designed to MCS standard. Nobody can quote a heat pump honestly without it.

  3. Step 3 · Days after the survey

    Design, price and grant

You get the heat loss figures, the radiator schedule and the price, with the £7,500 or £9,000 Boiler Upgrade Scheme voucher already taken off. We apply for the voucher; you never handle it.

  4. Step 4 · Two to three days on site

    Install

Our own team on site. Old boiler out, unit and cylinder in, radiators changed where the design says they have to be, and the electrical work signed off.

  5. Step 5 · Final day, then ongoing

    Commissioning and aftercare

We set the weather compensation curve properly rather than leaving it on the factory setting, show you the controls, register the MCS certificate and come back in the first winter to check how it is running.

Questions we get asked.

£7,500 or £9,000: which grant do I get?

Most homes get £7,500. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme pays £7,500 towards an air source heat pump in England and Wales if you own the property, are replacing a fossil-fuel or electric heating system and use an MCS certified installer. Homes replacing an oil or LPG boiler can get £9,000 for installs between 2026-07-21 and 31 March 2027; that covers a lot of the villages around Chesterfield, Mansfield and the Lincolnshire border that are off the gas grid. Either way we make the application, the voucher is issued in your name and we take it off the price, so you only pay the balance.

Which heat pumps do you install, and how does that compare with the Octopus offer?

We fit the Ideal, Vaillant aroTHERM plus and Mitsubishi Ecodan ranges, and we choose between them from your heat loss survey rather than from a catalogue. Octopus and the other national offers advertise a headline price for their own unit, with the £7,500 grant already taken off, and that price is real for a well-insulated, newer home with a low heat loss that takes their energy tariff. What the headline usually leaves out is radiator changes, the hot water cylinder, and often the survey itself, which is where most of the cost sits in an older Yorkshire semi. Our price is one figure for the whole job, in writing after the survey, with the grant deducted. Bring us a national quote and we will show you line by line what it does and does not include.

How much does a heat pump cost after the grant?

A three-bed semi is typically between £12,000 and £17,000 before the grant, and a larger three to six-bed between £14,000 and £18,000. Take the £7,500 off that and most homes land between £4,500 and £10,500. A cascade, where one unit cannot cover the heat loss, starts from £23,000 before the grant. The firm price comes after the heat loss survey.

Will it heat my house in winter?

Yes, if it is sized properly. Modern units hold their rated output down to about -7°C and keep working well below that. The heat loss survey sizes the pump for the coldest design day for your postcode, and radiators are upgraded where a room needs more surface area at the lower flow temperature.

Do I need planning permission for a heat pump?

Usually not. Since 2025 an air source heat pump is permitted development on most houses in England without the old one-metre boundary rule, as long as it meets the noise standard (MCS 020) and is not on a wall facing a highway in a conservation area. Listed buildings still need consent. We check at the survey.

What does it cost to run compared with gas?

At a seasonal efficiency of around 3.5 and today's prices, a heat pump costs roughly the same to run as a gas boiler on a standard tariff and less on a heat pump tariff such as Cosy Octopus. Pair it with solar and a battery and a good share of the running cost disappears in spring and autumn. Your design includes the estimate for your home.

Is a heat pump noisy?

A modern monobloc runs at roughly 40 to 50 dB(A) at one metre, about the level of a quiet fridge. The MCS 020 noise assessment we do at the survey checks the level at your neighbour's nearest window, and the position is chosen to pass it.
