What it costs to have one fitted

after the £7,500 grant, 0% VAT

Installed price covers the heat pump, cylinder, controls, pipework, radiator changes as designed, removal of the old boiler, MCS paperwork and the grant claimed for you.

What moves it: the heat loss of the house, how many radiators the design says have to change, where the cylinder goes, and what has to happen to the pipework. The room-by-room survey settles all four.

We give you a figure at the visit and put it in writing. Finance is available; Newpower Advanced Ltd is a credit broker, not a lender (FCA FRN 1037988).

Why the Mitsubishi Ecodan

  • A safe pair of hands

Ecodan has been the most-fitted heat pump in the UK for over a decade. Parts, controls and support are easy to get, and every plumber we employ has fitted them.

  • Quiet

The Ecodan range is among the quietest on the market, which makes the MCS 020 noise assessment at your neighbour's window easier to pass on a tight semi.

  • R290 range for higher flow temperatures

The newer R290 (propane) models reach higher flow temperatures, so more homes can keep their existing radiators.

Two ways an Ecodan replaces your boiler

Low-temperature system

Radiators upsized where needed and the pump runs at a low flow temperature for the best efficiency and the lowest running cost. Most homes, and the design we recommend.

High-temperature retrofit

Where radiators cannot be changed, an R290 Ecodan runs hotter and keeps them. Lower efficiency than the low-temperature design, but still a full boiler replacement with the grant.

All three are good pumps and the design matters more than the badge. The Ecodan is the proven, quiet, widely supported choice. The aroTHERM plus is the one to pick for a high-temperature retrofit that keeps the radiators. The Altherma has the widest range of sizes and cylinder options. We fit all three and recommend from the heat loss survey.

Tariff pairing: Cosy Octopus

A heat pump on a standard tariff costs about the same to run as gas. On a heat pump tariff such as Cosy Octopus, with cheap windows through the day and evening, it drops well below year for a typical three-bed. We set the controller to pre-heat in the cheap windows.

Questions about the Mitsubishi Ecodan.

How much does a Mitsubishi Ecodan cost installed?

A three-bed semi is typically between £12,000 and £17,000 before the grant, so most land between £4,500 and £9,500 once £7,500 comes off. The firm price follows the heat loss survey, which is the chargeable part of the process and is what the design is built on.

Is the Ecodan noisy?

No. It is one of the quietest ranges available, at roughly 40 to 50 dB(A) at one metre, and the MCS 020 noise assessment we do at the survey checks the level at your neighbour's nearest window.

Do I get the £7,500 grant?

Yes, if you own the home and are replacing a fossil-fuel or electric heating system. We apply for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme on your behalf and deduct it from the price.

Will I need new radiators?

Usually some. The heat loss survey shows which rooms need more radiator surface at the lower flow temperature. An R290 Ecodan running hotter reduces the number of changes.

Will it work in a cold winter?

Yes. The Ecodan keeps working well below freezing, and we size it for the coldest day on record for your postcode rather than an average one.

How long is the warranty?

Mitsubishi Electric's own warranty, which runs longer when the unit is installed and registered by an approved installer. We do the registration rather than leaving you a form, and our workmanship warranty sits on top.
