Why people ask for Mitsubishi Electric by name
Mitsubishi Electric has made air conditioning for decades, and its wall units have a reputation for being quiet, reliable and easy to live with. That reputation is why it is the brand people most often ask for by name when the unit is going above a bed or into a lounge.
The MSZ-LN range comes in several finishes rather than plain white, which matters in a room that is on show. The wider MSZ range covers everything from a single bedroom to a whole floor on a multi-split, and the Mr Slim and City Multi ranges take the same engineering into offices and shops.
Like every fixed system we fit, it is a heat pump running both ways: it cools in July and heats the same room in January for a fraction of the cost of a plug-in heater. Every install is by an F-Gas certified engineer under our REFCOM registration.
- Quiet indoor units, which is what matters in a bedroom
- The MSZ-LN range comes in a choice of finishes, not only white
- App control through Mitsubishi Electric's own Wi-Fi interface
- Heats in winter as well as cooling in summer
The full Mitsubishi Electric range
We fit the whole Mitsubishi Electric range, domestic and commercial, in every size. The three below are the arrangements most jobs fall into.
Roughly how the range maps onto real houses:
One room
A south-facing bedroom, a loft conversion or a home office.
- Arrangement
- One wall unit inside, one condenser outside
- Heating
- Yes, far cheaper to run than a plug-in heater
- Control
- Handset and app
- Sized by
- The room, its glazing and which way it faces
Several rooms
The whole upstairs, or a lounge and the main bedroom together.
- Arrangement
- Multi-split, one outdoor unit serving several rooms
- Why it adds up
- The extra rooms share the condenser
- Control
- Each room set independently
- Constraint
- Pipework routing, which we plan at the survey
Offices and shops
Commercial floors, surgeries, salons and server rooms.
- Ranges
- Mr Slim and City Multi
- Units
- Wall, ceiling cassette or ducted
- VAT
- 20%, reclaimable by a VAT-registered business
- Upkeep
- Maintenance contract with the F-Gas log kept for you
How Mitsubishi Electric compares
| Mitsubishi Electric | Daikin | Midea | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Indoor noise on low | Very quiet | Among the quietest | Quiet |
| Looks | Several finishes | Best in the range | Plain |
| Heats in winter | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Price per room | Higher | Higher | Best value |
| Best for | Controls and reliability | Bedrooms and rooms on show | Getting more rooms done |
The honest verdict
Why we fit a lot of them
- Quiet enough for a bedroom, which is where most domestic air conditioning goes
- A choice of finishes, so a unit on show does not have to be a white box
- One manufacturer from a single bedroom up to a commercial floor
- Parts and support are easy to get in the UK, which matters in year seven
What to weigh up
- It costs more per room than a value range, so on a three-room job check the quote shows each room's unit separately
- Make sure the quote names the exact indoor unit and its capacity; two quotes for the same brand can be for very different models
- The 0% VAT only applies in a home; fitted to an office or a shop it carries 20%, which a VAT-registered business reclaims
- It does nothing for your hot water, so it is a comfort system and not a boiler replacement
Questions we get asked about Mitsubishi Electric
Is Mitsubishi Electric air conditioning quiet enough for a bedroom?
It is one of the reasons people choose it. On its lowest fan speed the indoor unit is quiet enough to sleep under, and we position the outdoor unit so it is not under your window or a neighbour's.
Does it heat as well as cool?
Yes. It is a heat pump running in reverse, so it warms the room in winter for roughly a third of the running cost of an electric heater. That is why it is a sensible way to heat a loft conversion the radiators never reached.
Can I control it from my phone?
Yes, through Mitsubishi Electric's own Wi-Fi interface and app, so you can switch a bedroom on before you go up or turn the office off from the train.
Do you fit it in offices and shops?
Yes. The Mr Slim and City Multi ranges are the commercial end of the same family, and commercial air conditioning covers how we survey and size those jobs.
Is there a grant?
There is a £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant for air-to-air heat pumps, which is what fixed air conditioning is, but nobody can claim it yet. It has to go through an installer certified by MCS for air-to-air, and no installer can be certified until the certification bodies are accredited, so not one voucher had been issued by the end of August 2026. When it opens it will only apply to a home where the new system fully replaces the gas, oil, LPG or electric heating; adding cooling to a house that keeps its boiler will not qualify. Ask us and we will tell you where it stands.
