What it costs to have one fitted

0% VAT on a fixed system in your home until March 2027; 20% on commercial premises

Installed price covers the indoor and outdoor units, the insulated pipework run, condensate drain, dedicated supply, vacuum and commissioning by an F-Gas engineer.

What moves it: the size of the unit, how far the pipework has to run, and whether the outdoor unit can go straight through the wall behind the indoor one or has to be carried round the house.

Why the Mitsubishi Electric air conditioning

  • MSZ-AP: the reliable workhorse

The MSZ-AP is the wall unit we fit most: efficient, quiet, sensibly priced and with a reliability record that makes it the default for a bedroom or home office.

  • MSZ-LN: the premium option

Higher efficiency, a 3D i-see sensor that directs air away from people, and finishes in pearl white, ruby red, onyx black and natural white for a room where the unit is part of the design.

  • Mr Slim and City Multi for business

Ceiling cassettes, ducted and wall units on Mr Slim single and multi-split outdoor units, and City Multi VRF for larger floors, all with MELCloud control.

One room, or several?

Single split

One indoor wall unit and one outdoor unit, usually fitted in a day. The MSZ-AP in a bedroom, loft or office is our most common domestic job.

Multi-split

Several indoor units on one MXZ outdoor unit, so two bedrooms, or a lounge and an office, share one condenser.

The MSZ-AP is the value pick and the one most customers end up with. Go to the MSZ-LN or the Daikin Perfera for the last few points of efficiency and quiet, or for a finish that suits the room. We fit them all and price side by side.

Running cost, and pairing with solar

An MSZ-AP cooling a bedroom overnight uses a couple of kilowatt-hours, and heats the same room in winter for around a third of what a plug-in heater costs. With solar, summer daytime cooling runs largely on your own generation.

Questions about the Mitsubishi Electric air conditioning.

How much does Mitsubishi Electric air conditioning cost installed?

It is priced per room, with no VAT in your home until March 2027, and with the MSZ-LN dearer than the MSZ-AP for the finish and the filtration. A second room sharing the same outdoor unit costs a good deal less than the first. The figure follows the survey.

MSZ-AP or MSZ-LN?

The AP does the job at the best price. The LN adds efficiency, the i-see sensor and a choice of finishes. Unless the room is a showpiece, the AP is usually the right call.

Does it heat as well?

Yes. Every unit is a heat pump and heats the room in winter for around a third of the cost of an electric heater.

How noisy is the outdoor unit?

Domestic outdoor units run at roughly 45 to 50 dB(A) at one metre. We place them away from bedroom windows, yours and the neighbours'.

Do you do offices and shops?

Yes. Mr Slim cassettes and ducted units for small offices and shops, City Multi VRF for larger floors, with out-of-hours installs and a maintenance contract. See commercial air conditioning.

Is there a grant or 0% VAT?

On VAT, yes: a fixed system in your home is zero-rated until 31 March 2027, because HMRC treats it as an air source heat pump. On the grant: There is a £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant for air-to-air heat pumps, which is what fixed air conditioning is, but nobody can claim it yet. It has to go through an installer certified by MCS for air-to-air, and no installer can be certified until the certification bodies are accredited, so not one voucher had been issued by the end of August 2026. When it opens it will only apply to a home where the new system fully replaces the gas, oil, LPG or electric heating; adding cooling to a house that keeps its boiler will not qualify. Ask us and we will tell you where it stands.
