Air conditioning from Newpower
A split-system air conditioner is a small air-to-air heat pump: one quiet wall unit inside, one condenser outside, and a pair of pipes between them. It cools a bedroom or living room in minutes in July and heats the same room in January for about a third of the cost of an electric heater, because it moves heat rather than making it. The same kit does a bedroom or a home office, which is home air conditioning, or a whole office or shop floor, which is commercial air conditioning.
Our own team, on your job.
Newpower is REFCOM registered (REF1023574), the F-Gas certification the law requires for anyone handling refrigerant. We fit Mitsubishi Electric, Midea and Daikin equipment for homes, offices, shops and server rooms, from our base in Rotherham to anywhere in the country. A fixed system in a home is zero-rated for VAT until 31 March 2027; in commercial premises it is 20%. The air conditioning grant guide explains the £2,500 air-to-air grant and why nobody can claim it yet.

What air conditioning costs
Priced by rooms, and by where the outdoor unit goes
One wall unit in one room is a day's work. Two or three rooms off one outdoor unit costs less per room than doing them separately. The pipe run, the wall type and where the condenser can sit are what move it, so we want to see the rooms before we put a number on it.
A fixed system is an air-to-air heat pump, so it heats in winter as well as cooling in summer, and in your home it is zero-rated for VAT until 31 March 2027, the same as solar. Offices and shops pay VAT at 20%, which a VAT-registered business reclaims.

It is a heat pump. It just goes both ways.
Everybody buys air conditioning for the three hot weeks in July. Then they find it heats a room in January for less than the boiler does, and it becomes the unit they use all year.

What we fit
We choose equipment we can get parts and support for locally. If you have a brand in mind, ask; if it is good we will fit it.
How it works.
From enquiry to handover, and who does what.
Step 1 · Booked within days of the enquiry
Survey
We measure the room, look at the glazing and aspect, and agree the position of the indoor and outdoor units and where the pipework will run.
Step 2 · Usually one day after the survey
Written quote
Installed price in writing, VAT included, with the unit model and the pipework route. Planning rarely applies to a single domestic unit, and we tell you if it does.
Step 3 · Usually a day on site
Install
A single split is usually done in a day: bracket up, units mounted, pipework run and pressure-tested, electrics connected.
Step 4 · Same day
Commissioning
The system is vacuumed, charged as the manufacturer specifies and run in heating and cooling. We set up the app and show you the modes.
Step 5 · Annually
Aftercare
F-Gas records and certificates emailed to you. An annual clean and check keeps the warranty valid and the unit efficient; we offer it as a plan.

Questions we get asked.
How much does home air conditioning cost?
It is priced per room, and by where the outdoor unit has to go. One unit in one room is the cheapest job on our books; a second room sharing that outdoor unit costs a good deal less than the first. What moves it is the size of the unit, how far the pipework has to run and whether the condenser can go straight through the wall behind the indoor unit or has to be carried round the house. In a home there is no VAT on it until March 2027, and in commercial premises the 20% is shown separately so you can reclaim it.
Does air conditioning heat as well as cool?
Yes. Every unit we fit is a heat pump in reverse: in heating mode it delivers roughly three to four kW of heat for each kW of electricity it draws. Many customers use it as their main heating for a loft conversion, extension or home office that the radiators never quite reach.
Do I need planning permission?
For a single outdoor unit on most houses, no: it is permitted development provided it meets the size and noise conditions and is not on a wall facing a highway in a conservation area. Flats, listed buildings and multiple units are different, and we will tell you at the survey.
What does REFCOM registered mean?
REFCOM is the F-Gas certification body. The law requires anyone who installs or services equipment containing refrigerant to hold company certification, and Newpower's number is REF1023574. It means the refrigerant is handled by qualified engineers and properly recorded.
Is it noisy?
Indoor units run at about 19 to 25 dB(A) on their lowest fan speed, which is quieter than a fridge. Outdoor units sit around 45 to 50 dB(A) at one metre, and we place them so they do not face a neighbour's bedroom window.
Is there a grant for air conditioning?
There is a £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant for air-to-air heat pumps, which is what fixed air conditioning is, but nobody can claim it yet. It has to go through an installer certified by MCS for air-to-air, and no installer can be certified until the certification bodies are accredited, so not one voucher had been issued by the end of August 2026. When it opens it will only apply to a home where the new system fully replaces the gas, oil, LPG or electric heating; adding cooling to a house that keeps its boiler will not qualify. Ask us and we will tell you where it stands. Separately from the grant, a fixed system in your home is zero-rated for VAT until 31 March 2027, whether or not the grant applies.
