Why people ask for Midea by name

Midea is one of the largest air conditioning manufacturers in the world and makes equipment for several brands you would recognise. What you are buying is the same engineering without the premium badge, and in a house where you want three rooms done rather than one, that difference is what makes the job happen at all.

It does the same job as the dearer ranges: cools in summer, heats in winter, runs off an app. On the lowest fan speed it is a touch more audible than a Daikin, which matters in a bedroom for a light sleeper and matters not at all in an office, a loft conversion or a lounge.

We fit it where the budget has to cover more rooms, and we say plainly which rooms we would not put it in. Every install is by an F-Gas certified engineer under our REFCOM registration.

  • The best value per room in our range, so the budget covers more of the house
  • Heats in winter as well as cooling in summer
  • App control over Wi-Fi as standard
  • Fitted by F-Gas certified engineers under REFCOM registration

The full Midea range

We fit the whole Midea range, wall units and cassettes, in every size. The three below are the arrangements most jobs fall into.

Roughly how the range maps onto real houses:

  • One room

An office, a loft conversion or a lounge.

    Arrangement
One indoor unit, one outdoor unit
    Heating
Yes, and far cheaper than a plug-in heater
    Control
    App and handset
    Note
For a light sleeper's bedroom we would suggest a quieter range
  • Several rooms

Where the whole first floor or a couple of receptions need doing.

    Arrangement
Multi-split, one outdoor unit serving several rooms
    Why it adds up
The extra rooms share the condenser
    Control
    Each room set independently
    Constraint
    Pipework routing, not the equipment
  • Ceiling cassettes

Offices, shops and rooms where a wall unit would look wrong.

    Arrangement
    Recessed into the ceiling void
    Requires
Enough void above, which we check at survey
    Advantage
Out of sight and spreads the air better
    Typical use
Commercial floors and large open rooms

The honest verdict

Why we fit a lot of them

  • Makes a multi-room job affordable, which is usually the difference between doing it and not
  • Same core function as the premium ranges: cools, heats, app control
  • Made by one of the largest manufacturers in the world, so parts are not a worry
  • Cassette options for rooms where a wall unit would look wrong

What to weigh up

  • A touch more audible on the lowest fan speed, which only matters in a bedroom and only for a light sleeper
  • Plainer looking, so in a room you sit in every evening it is worth seeing the alternatives before deciding
  • The 0% VAT only applies in a home; fitted to an office or a shop it carries 20%, which a VAT-registered business reclaims
  • It does nothing for your hot water, so it is a comfort system and not a boiler replacement

Questions we get asked about Midea

Is Midea any good?

It is one of the largest air conditioning manufacturers in the world and makes equipment for brands you would recognise. It does the same job as the dearer ranges for less, and it is what makes a three-room job affordable.

Is it noisier than the premium brands?

A touch, on the lowest fan speed. In an office, a loft room or a lounge you will not notice. In a bedroom where somebody sleeps lightly, we would talk you through the quieter options before you commit.

Does it heat as well as cool?

Yes. It is a heat pump running in reverse, delivering roughly three to four units of heat for each unit of electricity, which is why it is a sensible way to warm a loft conversion the radiators never reached.

Can I do several rooms?

That is where it makes most sense. A multi-split puts several indoor units on one outdoor unit, so the second and third rooms cost a good deal less than the first.

Is there a grant?

There is a £2,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant for air-to-air heat pumps, which is what fixed air conditioning is, but nobody can claim it yet. It has to go through an installer certified by MCS for air-to-air, and no installer can be certified until the certification bodies are accredited, so not one voucher had been issued by the end of August 2026. When it opens it will only apply to a home where the new system fully replaces the gas, oil, LPG or electric heating; adding cooling to a house that keeps its boiler will not qualify. Ask us and we will tell you where it stands.
